MS-DOS Disk MAAA
Presented by Colin Justason
This is the first of the TPUG PC disks, MAAA. M = MS-DOS AAA = DISK ID
I have tried to make it a bit of an all around disk, hopefully something for
everyone. It is for the most part a shareware/freeware disk and you should let
your conscience guide you but I suggest that if you are going to use these
programs that you should pay the programmer something for his effort if you
find the program useful. Most of the programmers make contribution suggestions
which do not seem out of line, in fact most are a steal for the quality of
their work. I have separated the programs with dummy files starting with a -
and an ext of ---. These files are blank and can be deleted once you are
familiar with the different files and what is required for each program.
Anyway back to the disk MAAA.
The first two programs on the disk are FM & FFM and can display two
directories or disks at a time, great for comparison or copy work. These are
programs for manipulating files on your disks. FM is very good for monochrome
and instructions are included at any time by using the function key F2 for
either program. FFM is in color and works best on a color or high res monitor.
It includes a show and execution system for running files without leaving FFM.
There are a few other features but these two programs are excellent for the
novice and expert alike.
The next program is for the Epson or Epson compatible users who like being
able to control their printers from the keyboard. I install this program via a
Autoexec.bat file and then whenever you want to call up nu-epson just press
the ALT + CAPS keys together and select your option or options and press
return. Please read the nu-epson docs for special features, however the menu
selection is quite good for a resident program.
Popsicle is the next program and is a resident program that is called up
whenever you want via your selection of keys which along with colors etc you
assign first by running popsetup. Follow the instructions after running
popsetup and then load popsicle and enjoy its advantages.
PMAP is a neat little program for finding out how much memory all these little
memory resident programs take up and where there are in memory. Read the docs
for additional features.
DDIR shows a dual directory and provides an alternative to the dir/w or dir/p
method of finding out what is on your disk. Use it just like you would dir
e.g. ddir a: for drive A listing or ddir b: for drive B etc.
RENDIR stands for rename directory for those of you who are into subdirectory
uses. Remember to include the path name when you goto rename.
WPK stands for word processor for kids and its quite good just load and enjoy.
There are five examples as well as the docs so no one should have any
problems.
CLOCK is a very small memory resident program which puts a clock up in the
top right hand side of your screen and is very handy if you are a clock
watcher. I like it but prefer to change the dos prompt to show the time since
i have not experienced any problems with it and any other memory resident
programs. Try it and it may be to your liking.
TIRED is a little program you can leave on your machine for snoops.
PC-TOUCH is a typing tutor for those of us who never have become good at the
keyboard, or is my 18 words a minute ok ? Read the docs and give it a try, you
may improve your speed. It also shows your accuracy in case you really like
this type of thing. I just use the pc-touch.exe since there is no way i have
the time to modify these programs and find it just fine the way it is, however
if you want the rest of the files they are there.
Thats it for disk MAAA, hope you enjoy it and remember the Programmers.
